Chandigarh became India’s first slum-free city after authorities demolished the last remaining slum settlement within its limits. During this twelve-year drive, authorities have reclaimed over 520 acres of public land across the city. The drive, this year, demolished encroachments from land valued at over ₹2,500 crore. Officials said reclamation efforts have paved way for new urban development.
