Chaos erupted at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's felicitation ceremony in Assam's Jorhat as around 2,000 party members attended it, leading to overcrowding. The stage, built for a limited capacity, got crowded as nearly 300 people gathered on it. The event was halted twice by organisers due to safety concerns. Gaurav Gogoi took over as the new party chief in Assam.
