Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have spotted the chestnut-capped babbler (Timalia pileata) in Howrah’s riverine grasslands, marking its return to South Bengal after nearly 150 years. The bird was last recorded by JC Parker at Salt Lake in 1875, according to British naturalist Allan Octavian Hume's book. The bird is a timid insectivore that avoids human presence.
