Wild chimpanzees eat about 10% of their body weight in ripe fruit daily, much of which ferments naturally. Researchers tested fallen fruit in Uganda and Ivory Coast and found chimps consumed alcohol equal to half pint of beer daily, making around 14 gram of ethanol through these fermented fruits. Figs, often favoured by them, showed the highest ethanol levels.
