After US President Donald Trump began threatening China with tariffs in March, Chinese President Xi Jinping began outreach to India through a secret letter, according to an official. The letter sent to President Droupadi Murmu named a provincial official who would steer China's efforts, the official said, adding that the message was sent across to PM Narendra Modi.
