Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged Congress had committed a ‘historic blunder’ by letting Pakistan become a nuclear state. "India’s tragic inaction during the 1980s remains a cautionary tale of what could have been and what wasn’t," he said. "India had the capability…to eliminate the threat [nuclear]…[but] Indira Gandhi hesitated," he added. India continues to pay the price, he noted.
