Following its defeat in Bihar, Congress claimed ECI had put the total number of electors at 7.42 crore in an October 6 press note, but increased it to 7.45 crore in a press release after the elections. ECI, in response, clarified that eligible citizens can apply to be included in the electoral rolls even after the elections are announced.
