Slamming former PM Indira Gandhi-led Emergency in 1975, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recalled her son Sanjay Gandhi's role. Stating that efforts undertaken for discipline and order often turned into acts of cruelty that could not be justified, Tharoor said, "Sanjay Gandhi led forced sterilisation campaigns which became a notorious example of this."
