High-energy particles from space, known as cosmic rays, could help life survive underground on planets and moons, as per a new study. When these particles hit water or ice, they release electrons that some bacteria can use for energy through a process called radiolysis. Simulations suggest Saturn's moon Enceladus offers the most potential, followed by Mars and Jupiter's moon Europa.
