Infosys Founder Narayana Murthy, over two decades ago, had offered IIT Kanpur a donation of ₹8 crore in the company shares. But the plan hit regulatory hurdles as the Centre didn't allow educational institutions to accept equity-based donations. "If they had accepted the shares and simply held on to them, today they would be worth ₹2,000 crore," Murthy said.
