Counterfeit currency notes of ₹500 denomination rose over 37% from 85,711 pieces in FY24 to 1.18 lakh pieces during FY25 in the banking system, the RBI reported. Meanwhile, fake notes of the ₹200 denomination surged over 13% in FY25. Additionally, overall fake notes stood at 2.18 lakh pieces, as compared to 2.23 lakh pieces in FY24.
