A man named Lisbon Ferrao and his family discovered Vasai Beach covered in plastic waste in 2017, prompting Ferrao and his wife to spearhead a volunteer group called 'Vasai Beach Cleaners'. The group organises weekly clean-ups, educates the community on pollution and recycling. With over 20,000 volunteers, they've removed 850 tonnes of waste from beaches across Mumbai.
