Nagaland saw a 28% rise in cognizable crimes in 2023, mainly due to a 91% jump in Special & Local Laws (SLL) cases, largely involving excise and narcotics. IPC crimes stayed steady at 1,050 cases, with low rates of violent and gender-based crimes. Cyber and economic offences rose slightly. Despite this, Nagaland still recorded lowest overall crime rate in Northeast.
