A study in Zimbabwe found that the antibiotic trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole reduced preterm births in HIV-positive pregnant women. Only 2% of women on the drug had preterm births vs 14% on placebo. Researchers call it a potential low-cost strategy needing further trials. The findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
