After US President Donald Trump sent the National Guard and Marines to quell protests in Los Angeles, California Governor Gavin Newsom said the move was a part of a calculated "war" intended to concentrate power in the White House. "Democracy is under assault before our eyes," he added. He further called Trump a threat to American way of life.
