Warwick University scientists have built a diamond-based magnetic field sensor that can trace magnetic fluid injected into the body, improving tumour detection. Reported in Physical Review Applied, the handheld, non-toxic, non-radioactive device uses diamond’s unique properties to diagnose metastasised breast cancer. It could offer safer and less invasive alternative to radioactive techniques.
