Former Union Minister Smriti Irani, on Rahul Gandhi not contesting the Amethi constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after being defeated by her in 2019, said, "The Gandhi family refused to fight me in 2024. What can I say when they didn't even enter the battlefield?" Gandhi didn't contest because he knew he would be defeated again, she added.
