The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijri New Year, marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar. It commemorates Prophet Muhammad’s migration (Hijrah) from Mecca to Medina. The first month is Muharram, one of the holiest months in Islam. Unlike New Year celebrations elsewhere, it is observed with reflection, prayer, and remembrance, especially among Shia Muslims.
