The DRI on Monday seized 92.1 lakh sticks of foreign-origin cigarettes worth ₹18.2 crore in Chennai. Smuggled from Dubai under the guise of sanitary fittings, the illegal cigarettes violated Indian packaging laws. The consignment was seized under the Customs Act. In the past year, DRI has seized 4.4 crore sticks worth ₹79.67 crore from Chennai ports.
