Russia claimed NATO's 'anti-Russian' policies were reason why it was no longer bound by Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with US. The treaty, which US exited in 2019 due to Russia's non-compliance, served as a moratorium on deployment of short and medium-range missiles. US President Donald Trump recently ordered two nuclear submarines to "be positioned in appropriate regions" near Russia.
