Earth’s Umbra creates rare blue hue in Blood Moon eclipse
short by Swati Dubey / on 11 Sep 2025,Thursday
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon is covered in a dark shadow from Earth's conical umbra. A distinct blue rim emerged on Moon during the recent eclipse. The unusual blue hue was caused by sunlight passing through the upper stratosphere, where ozone blocked the red light, letting the blue light slip through, making the Moon's edge appear blue.
