Amid the Centre's implementation of blending 20% ethanol in petrol, NITI Aayog's 2021 report stating that the blending will lower petrol prices has reportedly resurfaced. The report had said, "A successful E20 program could save India...₹30,000 crore/year." It added that using E20 could estimate a loss of 6-7% fuel efficiency for 4-wheelers originally decided for E0 and calibrated for E10.
