Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that evicted people should not be given shelter, or else the "position of our people", which improved through evictions and other measures, will become "bad again." He urged the public not to help those evicted. Sarma also accused alleged encroachers of being the root of several issues, such as 'love jihad' and 'land jihad'.
