An extremely rare 2,200-year-old gold quarter-drachma coin bearing portrait of Egyptian Queen Berenice II, wife of Ptolemy III, has been unearthed during excavations at Jerusalem's City of David by Israel Antiquities Authority. Dating to 241-246 BCE and struck in 99.3% pure gold, it's one of only 20 such coins known. Further, it's the first-ever discovered in a clear archaeological context.
