A retired army veteran, Ramesh Kharmale, and his family have revitalised barren hillside in Maharashtra's Junnar by carving 70 trenches spanning 412 meters and planting over 450 trees. These trenches harvest roughly 8 lakh litres of rainwater each season, potentially up to 16 million litres yearly and the family plans to plant 500 more saplings on the slopes.
