FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be the most climate-damaging ever in the history of the tournament, Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) said in a report. The report added that nine million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent will be generated in the 48-team tournament, amplified by "high reliance on air travel and significant increase in the quantity of matches".
