Biocon Founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw criticised the civic hygiene issues of Bengaluru residents. While reposting an X user's video showing gutka stains outside Mantri Square Sampige Road metro station, Mazumdar-Shaw wrote, "Filthy habits that must be called out and hefty fines [be] imposed." A person commented, "The same people won't commit this crime in Singapore...where the fine is in lakhs."
