Scientists have created the first artificial cell that moves independently using chemotaxis, the ability to sense and follow chemical gradients. It's made of a lipid membrane, a membrane pore, and a single enzyme encased in a liposome structure. The enzyme, when it comes into contact with glucose or urea, produces a fluid flow which drives the cell towards greater concentrations.
