Several fisherwomen in Andhra Pradesh have taken up the initiative to protect the Pulicat Lake, located on the state's border with Tamil Nadu, from poachers who dig up craters in the lake to collect polychaete worms illegally. The poaching causes severe ecological damage and to combat it, the fisherwomen now patrol the lake, chase away poachers and report violations.
