The fitment committee under the GST Council, comprising officials from both the Centre and states, has approved the two-slab tax structure of 5% and 18%. This comes ahead of the two-day meeting (September 3-4) of the Council to discuss the proposal for the GST revamp. The overhaul will also consist of a 40% tax rate on sin goods like tobacco.
