French judicial authorities issued an arrest warrant for Syria’s former President Bashar al-Assad over the 2012 bombing of a press centre in a rebel-held area in Homs that killed two journalists. Besides Assad, who fled to Russia in 2024 when opposition fighters seized control of Syria, warrants have also been issued against his brother Maher and several other officials.
