French President Emmanuel Macron said France will double its military spending and also urged other European Union (EU) countries to do the same. This comes amid US President Donald Trump's pressure on NATO member states to increase contributions towards collective security. Macron had earlier urged EU states to spend more on their defence and reduce reliance on US.
