While hearing a plea by convict Sukhdev Pehalwan in Nitish Katara murder case, the Supreme Court directed states/UTs to identify and immediately release any convicts who are still in prison despite completing their sentence. The court issued the directive while ordering the release of Sukhdev Pehalwan. Katara was killed in 2002 over affair with ex-minister DP Yadav's daughter.
