Fungi vital to life facing growing risk of extinction, study shows

According to a study, nearly a third, or 411 of the 1,300 species of fungi is at risk of extinction due to deforestation and agricultural expansion. Fungi play a critical role in a range of functions from decomposition to forest regeneration and play an important role in making several medicines, including antibiotics. Without fungi, an ecosystem can collapse quickly.
