Researchers at Rockefeller University have found that ants' caste, whether an ant becomes a queen or a worker, isn't just determined by size alone. Though environmental factors such as food and temperature can affect how big an ant grows, only genes decide threshold at which queen traits emerge. Even the ants of same size can develop differently depending on genetics.
