Talking about cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Dharali, glaciologist Anil Kulkarni suggested possibility of breach in a glacial lake that could've formed above Kheer Ganga river. He stated satellite images from September 2022 showed clues of past lake formations in the area. If a lake had indeed formed recently, it could have been breached due to movements in glacier mass, he added.
