Scientists have discovered that glaciers on Mars are composed of more than 80% pure water ice beneath a layer of rock and dust. NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter used the SHAllow RADar to measure radar wave behaviour to determine ice content and found that this purity level is consistent across different glaciers. Researchers said the ice formed through snowfall or frost.
