For the first time since 1996, global central banks now hold more gold than US Treasuries, reports stated. Central banks hold 36,344 tonnes of gold as of May 2025, while total gold purchased by these banks in 2020 and 2021 was less than 1,000 tonnes. Gold purchased by these banks saw a 13% rise in 2024 as compared to 2023.
