Goa CM Pramod Sawant vowed to act against fraudulent name changes after MLAs raised concerns over outsiders adopting Goan surnames. He said, "Only such a person can apply for a change of name if they are born in Goa...or have Goan parentage." This followed complaints by Opposition legislators that people from outside state were changing surnames to access government schemes.
