Bamakali dance is a 500-year-old tradition of Shantipur, Nadia district of West Bengal. The Bamakali idol, a form of Godess Kali famous for dancing with her devotees before immersion. During immersion procession, goddess Kali’s idol is carried on the shoulders by her devotees, who dance, thereby making the idol dance. People come from far and wide to witness this spectacle.
