Scientists from Zoological Survey of India have reported the discovery of the golden-haired tube-nosed bat in Mizoram, marking the first record of the species in India. The rare bat, first identified in Taiwan in 2006 and later in China and Vietnam, was spotted in India by bat researcher Dr Uttam Saikia during a survey in Hmuifang village in Aizawl district.
