The government has approved 10,023 new medical seats in existing government colleges and hospitals by 2028-29. These include 5,000 post-graduation and 5,023 undergraduate seats at an investment of ₹15,034 crore, of which over 31% would be contributed by the states. India currently has 808 medical colleges with 1,23,700 MBBS seats and 76,174 post-graduate seats.
