The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has exempted mining proposals of atomic, critical, and strategic minerals from the ambit of public consultations. It cited "national defence and security requirements and strategic considerations" for the move. The exemption was granted following a request from Ministry of Defence and the Department of Atomic Energy.
