The government has clarified that salaried individuals under the new tax regime will now get a standard deduction of ₹75,000, effective April 1, 2026 (FY 2026-27). This update, formalised through the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aligns retirement schemes like UPS and NPS while also resolving earlier ambiguities. Revised tax slabs under the new regime have also been specified.
