Finance Ministry denied the reports claiming Centre is considering reintroducing merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI transactions. "Such baseless and sensation-creating speculations cause needless uncertainty, fear and suspicion," said the ministry, adding, "Government remains fully committed to promoting digital payments via UPI." Reports claimed MDR would be levied on transactions above ₹3,000.
