The government has increased vehicle fitness test fees by up to 10 times under amendments to Central Motor Vehicles Rules. It introduced three age categories (10-15 years, 15-20 years and above 20 years), with fees rising by age. Heavy commercial vehicles face steepest hike, with trucks or buses older than 20 years to be charged ₹25,000, up from ₹2,500 earlier.
