Road Transport and Highways Ministry has proposed making acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS) mandatory for all electric cars, buses and trucks with effect from October 1, 2027. The draft stated that new EVs manufactured after October 1, 2026 must be equipped with AVAS. The AVAS is EVs emits an artificial sound to alert pedestrians and road users about their presence.
