The government has announced the dates for conducting a two-phase population census, which will include caste census for the first time. The reference date for Ladakh, along with the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be October 1, 2026. For the remaining states and UTs, the reference date will be March 1, 2027.
