The Centre is planning a "major" merger in the public sector banking space by clubbing smaller lenders with larger ones, Moneycontrol reported. This could include the merger of Indian Overseas Bank, Central Bank of India, Bank of India, and Bank of Maharashtra with PNB, Bank of Baroda, and SBI. The roadmap and discussions are expected to be finalised in FY27.
