OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted that the newly launched GPT-5 had an unflattering debut, and he is now letting ChatGPT's Plus subscribers choose to continue to use GPT-4o. "GPT-5 will seem smarter starting today (August 9)...Yesterday, the autoswitcher broke...and GPT-5 seemed way dumber," Altman added. "We will change the UI to make it easier to manually trigger thinking," he added.
